My First Blog Contest!

Well this weekend we had another big fat snow dump; this resulted in the cancellation of our Saturday triathlon, thus resulting in my being bummed out. On the plus side, we're rescheduling the triathlong for 2 weeks from now and this might actually give me a chance to increase my swim time! Yay!

Since I couldn't do a triathlon I've decided to do a give away!!!! This is my very first give away! I wanted to do something that would be simple and cute and personal. I worried a bag would take too long and I've got other orders awaiting my attention, I didn't want to do a child's outfit because I worried that maybe the winner wouldn't have a child (or grandchild), so I decided that to go along with Valentine's Day I would embroider some cute hand towels for the winner!

I am going to embroider these towels you see in the picture with the winners Last initial and either the married monogram or the winner's monogram--their choice-- in red!

I know I should probably be MAKING something to give away, but I thought these would be a nice trade for my time.

So, if you'd like to enter to win these oh-so-cute towels here's how, just write in the comments section your favorite snow-day activity to do with the kids! I'm running into a lot of these snowy days and I'd like to know your favorite way to beat the bordem!

Good Luck! I'll post the winner on Friday!!!!!!

When I was a little girl my parents were always trying to find thing to entertain us in the winter months. Growing up in the Northwest it snowed from September – May, some years. My dad would rebuild sleds and carve our names in them with little love notes to us. He would take us skiing, sledding, ice skating or build snow forts in the backyard and have snowball wars.
But, the best time on cold winter days when the snow was falling fresh on the ground and we could not go outside, my favorite thing was making SNOW ICECREAM with my mom in the kitchen.
~~~
Ingredients
8 cups snow, or shaved ice
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Place snow or shaved ice into a large bowl. Pour condensed milk over and add vanilla. Mix to combine. Serve immediately in bowls.
~~~
There is just something about being a big girl and helping in the kitchen. It became a little touch of summer on the tips of our tongues.
What A Fun Trip Down Memory Lane!

well our snow days are few and far between. AND you should move here too so I have someone to do triathalons with! As you know, I'm horrible at swimming - but improving. Although, who am I kidding, the bike and run aren't like awesome either. :-)

SO anway.....snow days- when we have snow the kids want to play play play in it. So I turn on the fireplace, get some hot cocoa ready and then when they're all worn out, we watch a movie. I do love having a day every now and then that you just can't get out. It's nice to be forced to take it easy - kwim?

Hey Wendy! Love your blog! So fun to see what you are up to after all these years! Your daughter is a doll! And I love all of your sewing projects! I am going to start my first quilt this weekend - wish me luck :)

As you know, living in AK we have a ton of snowy days. I have to admit I don't get out as much in the winter as I should, but when I do I like to snow shoe, cross country ski and geocache. My kids LOVE the snow. Tyler's favorite thing is building snow forts and sledding hills out of the mounds of snow the graders pile up in our circle. Another fun thing he has done at preschool is paint in the snow with colored water in spray bottles.

Hope you all are enjoying your snow while it lasts!

I have a 9 year old and a 2 year old. There is a wide span of age there but something that they both enjoy is making homemade play-doh. They love making it as much as they love playing with it!

We don't get the pleasure to have snow very often so when we do--we build snowwomen--and try to find the best things in the house to 'dress' them up like boas, buttons, hats--the more girly the better! We also make snow angels, have snow ball fights, go sledding--you name it, we do it! When we come inside, we have hot cocoa to warm up!

Well, as much as I don't care for the snow, I have to admit that we had a blast this past weekend riding the four wheelers in it! We put the kids on sleds and drug them around behind us...there were lots of giggles, a few spills, and some cold tootsies, but it was a ton of fun and a great family day!

Thanks for writing the blog!

Girl - when it snows, and I mean here in WV, when it really snows...what do we love to do? Go out and see where all we can go without using 4wheel drive! Go eat Mexican, go do our grocery shopping...anything we can get done while other people are playing it safe inside! Of course, we do enjoy building forts, sleighriding, and making snow angels. Then we come in and have hot chocolate with marshmallows and bury ourselves under a warm blanket. Happy Feet is our favorite movie to watch when it is snowing, and because we do school in the home, we try to get as much school done as possible on snow days...cause we call school off when the SUN IS SHINING!

This is a totally unfair contest since I couldn't tell you the last time we had a snow day. LOL But I'm gonna say ... stay inside and watch winter movies and make hot chocolate, with marshmallows of course :)

My favorite snow day activity? I love baking cookies or cupcakes and playing board game with the kids. Drinking hot chocolate and listening to the fire crackle in the fireplace. Ahhhhhh takes away the sting of the cold winds and freezing temperatures.
